Sun, Sea, Surf, Steam Punks and Tanks at Filey this weekend.

This weekend in Filey it's Steampunk Weekend but that's not all. There will also be tanks right in the middle of the beach.

Visitors can enjoy a ride in one of two decommissioned army tanks on Filey shores. The tanks will be there on Saturday and Sunday from 11 am- 5pm giving both adults and children the opportunity to take part in this unique experience.

The tanks are used as part of SWB Experience Days where activities include riding or driving racing cars, 4x4 army trucks or even fire engines.

Simon Baldry, Managing Director at SWB Motorsport LTD , said: " About two years ago we started working with military machines and we've created a monster."

He explained that this will be the first time that this has taken place on a beach. The tanks that they have on the beach at Filey are two of their lighter models, weighing approximately 8 tonnes.

"It is nice to be on sand because it doesn't wear anything out. It is possible to drive the tanks on a road, but this can work out extremely costly. If you want to replace a set of tyres it is £14, 000 for a new set of tracks."

SWB are working closely with Jeannie Williams, Chairperson of Filey and District Tourist Association, to ensure that this weekend of events runs smoothly. They have been able to coincide the event with the Steampunk weekend thanks to the help of Councillor John Casey and permission from Scarborough Council.

The price is £10 for adults, £5 for children under 12.

A percentage of the proceeds from the event will be going to the Filey Lifeboat and another to the Steampunk Filey event.
